I just finished watching this movie. When I bought the DVD, I didn't know it was French movie. The title in the cover is Look At Me and I, as usually, never interested to see the director's name. I just bought it because I like the picture.
From the picture, I sensed that this movie was not going to amaze me with its cinematography or its montage but it's going to show off some skill of naration. It was going to amaze me with stand-out characterizations. And just like usually, I was always right. Hahaha I'm not a witty review writer but I pick movies by its cover images at first.
And you know what... blog, it made me speechless just from the first sequence. From the first sequence, regardless that the language is French, I know this is very un-Hollywood. It drives me scattered. I didn't really know which one was the main plot. I'll let you know, I watched it 1,5 times. I cut my first time watching because NAOKI YOSHIHIKO and her AUNTY disturbed me and I continue today.
So at the first the movie plays, you're gonna meet Lolita
Lolita, a fat girl with disturbing-look (looks like she doesn't try to look chic at all), in a cab. The cab driver was very mean and responds impolitely to every Lolita's request like.. to turn down the music volume. Lolita looks weak compared with this fuckin taxi driver. She just mumbled and wondered of his responds. So unfair. Then came in two more people into the cab: Etienne, his father, and Katrine, his father's wife who is so young that looks more like Lolita's sister.
Then, after Etienne is in the cab, the situation changed. The driver was still a jerk but then Etienne yelled at him and showed him who's the king and who's in charge. It shows distinct characters of father and daughter.
